To date our $5 Fix program has "fixed" 40 females and 31 male cats, for a grand total 71. We started our $5 Fix program July 2010 and what a success it is. Funding for this is made possible by grants, donations and fundraisers. Oakville Cat House

A volunteer and I visited the Oakville Feral cat house today. Of course there was only one cat in site. (smart kitties) But from the sight of the pans of food there must be several there. There is also an additional house there on the tree? I do know most, if not all of the cats up until last fall had been fixed. Not sure what is going on at this time. Will need to follow up.

Happy that our dining room table is being put to good use.

This is one of the Food Lion babies (abt 10 weeks) when trapped along with three others about the same age.

Lesson learned here.

While he is in love with one of the volunteers he will never be a cat that will meet someone at the door. He runs when a strange car turns in the drive way. It is going to take a special person who really loves cats and has a lot of patience.

Buddy Barn Program

What is a Barn Buddy Cat? It is just like the name suggests! A Barn Buddy Cat is a cat that is kind, will keep you company when working around your barn...but isn't a traditional indoor pet cat. These cats will let you touch them, and a few will rub up against your legs to show you how much they appreciate your love (once they realize that you are friend not foe).

These cats, however, don't do well with strangers. They need the right feline lover who will take their time and develop a relationship with them.

The transition of moving somewhere new, will send these cats into temporary culture shock. Many of the Buddy Barn Cats are the product of a feral mommy cat. They aren't used to human Mommy's and Daddy's. It will take time a patience to settle them into human companionship. Only real kitty lovers need apply!

The Barn Buddy Cats are up to date on their vaccines, treated for parasites,

dewormed, and rabies vaccinated. They have either been either spayed or

neutered.

These furry little buddies adoption fee has been waived. However, a donation is always welcome to help offset the costs associated with spaying and neutering.

Many of the Buddy Barn Cats, are also workers with whiskers! They are good

mousers who will keep your grounds free and clear of pesky critters. While

they are working away, you would need to provide, food, water, love, and

health care costs (should they need it). For more information on these

Hello Foster Mom Cathy,

Sorry I have not been in touch. Hope this greeting finds you well.

I am in my new home for over 10 months now. I love it. It took me a long while

to adjust in the beginning, but I did. My mom is very good to me. She brushes

me, talks to me and tells me to relax every day. I finally decided to listen

and whew, relax is a great thing. I enjoy sitting in the sun by the window and

playing in my "condos". My dad lets me hang with him in the evenings. He tells

me what a pretty girl I am all the time, specially when I jump into his lap. I

don't get those nasty bumps anymore. Mom likes that!

After a long bout with upper respiratory and a eye infection(requiring pulling the third eye back FOUR times a day for meds, for 3 weeks), Nellie is finally well and with her new mom today. Nellie (now known as, Ava) will return next month to be spayed. We are Happy.

links removed. The collars did not work well for us. On one of the cats (large 6 month old) he did get the collar caught in his mouth and thank goodness I had stayed in the cat house to observe. He was not able to bite the collar into. When I noticed him in the litter box rolling around and the collar caught, I had to yank really hard to even get the collar apart. He could not bite it into, like the article mentioned, nor could he pulled it apart. His tongue was a very dark red and he must have bit his tongue because there was blood on his paw. Leave it to me to try to save a buck. They were cute and the small kitties did not have a problem. However,all are removed. I will still try this at an adoption event, but will only put on upon arrival and we will watch them closely. Could a quick release safety collar cause the same problem, yes probably so.

PHILLIPSBURG | The town could soon be home to some pricey cat food.

A law that calls for a $2,000 fine for anyone caught feeding feral cats or wildlife passed a first hurdle Tuesday, gaining unanimous town council approval on its initial reading. The law would be added to the books if council approves it on a second reading.

Residents say cats, skunks and raccoons are taking over the north end of town with smells and the potential for health risks. The town, meanwhile, can't find a shelter to take its feral cats and went without an animal control officer for two weeks until Monday.

"It's out of control and we need to do something about it," said Frank Eisley, a Rose Street resident who said 19 feral cats live in his neighborhood. He said sympathizers feed the cats, give them room to breathe and might spring them from traps.

While the proposed law needs due process, Mayor Harry Wyant Jr. on Tuesday announced several key steps being taken in addition to the feeding fine.

Wyant said Mike Krizan, who has experience in other municipalities, was hired as animal control officer Monday. He replaces Amanda Wojcik, who resigned Aug. 1.

Wyant also announced that a Harmony Township resident who runs a trap-neuter-release program has agreed to help Phillipsburg. Bobbi Santini operates Feline Urban Rescue and Rehab and seeks homes for potential pets.

The town's cat problem has become more severe in part because the Common Sense for Animals shelter in Franklin Township has stopped taking the town's cats. Owner Robert Blease has said new state limits on capacity are straining the no-kill shelter on Route 57.

The new law would let people feed wild animals under some conditions. A person who "has entered into a contract with the town for feeding of feral cats located within a colony" could do so. And the law wouldn't apply to bird feeders....

"The Known Four" was rescued from our local shelter yesterday by a volunteer. We just happened to have the space.(sorta) Two are drinking milk and two not. So you know what that means. Messy OMG, small kittens can be so messy. The shelter had taken the nursing kitttens away from their mother. The mother was euthanized a few days before. We will not even talk about our shelter, that discussion is for another day.

to date, six females and three males have been TNR. Four kittens will remain in the rescue to be handled, spayed/neutered, and adopted out to hopefully inside homes.

The tordie can really lay those ears back, but I can pick her up. The two red tabby's are just very scared.
I have one more pic to get of the cute with black tabby to post. I believe these kittens were dropped off and not from a feral mom, I could be wrong. I have only had one hiss/spit out of one of the red tabby's.

Sassy is quite a beauty. With a bit of Siamese in her she is already elegant and will be a show stopper as an adult. Her sides have pale yellow swirls that are very uncommon and most likely her eyes are going to remain blue. She is a bit timid at the present but is warming up more and more after each every time that she is loved. Sassy FIV negative, just lovely and an adorable beauty.

Diagnostic testing indicated that the product may contain insufficient levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1), which is essential for cats. Cats that were fed these canned products as their only food are at greater risk for developing signs of thiamine deficiency.

Yard Sale a success today.

The donations were down this year but we did take in a little over $500.00 which is about 1/3 of the normal yard sale amount. It was hot as, well just, HOT. We want to thank Sierra for her baked goodies, all the volunteers, our care taker who came many times through out the day, starting with breakfast that was delivered to us. Then the care taker came several more times to see if we needed anything. She even took me for a quick air conditioned ride around the block. (thank you) Thanks to all who donated the items, and to all our customers who purchased the items.

Daisy is a gorgeous dilute calico with medium length hair. She is somewhat shy at first but when she gets to know you she is quite affectionate, gentle, and will also chat with you. You will adore rubbing her incredibly soft hair as she arches her back. This cat does love attention and to be rubbed. Daisy is a mature spayed female that adores sleeping in high places. She has been spayed and is FIV negative.

Olivia is a big beautiful girl. She has the loveliest large blue eyes you have ever seen and the softest, silkiest coat. This beauty could also win a congeniality contest as she has a super personality as well. Olivia has a very sweet voice and will say hi to you when you speak to her. She is very affectionate and is an exceptionally nice all around cat. Olivia has been spayed and is FIV negative.

Jasper is sweet, sweet, sweet and cuter than cute, not to mention gorgeous with silky, soft hair. He will put a grin on your face for sure and most likely you will laugh at his kitten antics. He is just absolutely darling. This kitten purrs and purrs while being held and is quite content to be held for long periods of time. Jasper's eyes are still a bright beautiful blue where as some of our younger kitten's eyes have already begun to change. We are optimistic that Jasper will be that rare black cat with blue eyes.

We feel certain that Classy is going to keep her gorgeous blue eyes that she must have inherited from a close Siamese relative. Her unusual markings make her a real stand out now and will make her quite elegant as a grown cat. We have had a large number of kittens at the rescue each in their own way darling. But never, ever have we had a kitten as special as Doodlebug. First of all you can't look at this solid gray fluffy beauty with out a big smile appearing on your face. She is absolutely darling, beyond precious, and earns a 20 on a cuteness chart with 10 being highest score. She is an absolute doll. Her personality is perfect and she will make a terrific companion cat. This little girl will instantly steal your heart as she has ours for sure.

Community Student Involvement

With the help from our Warren early College High School, we are moving forward in educating the youth in our community about responsible pet care. The 20 hour required program for graduation gives students the opportunity to learn about addressing the needs in the community to which they live.

Pictured is Sierra Ross who is helping our rescue with the care of the cats and kittens to include feeding, socializing and kennel care.

four kittens pulled today from our local shelter which has a 98% euthanasia rate. a peak at the first one.

Yes you heard right, we took in four kittens from our local shelter this morning. (Our shelter has a 98% euthanasia rate) Then we had four adoptions today, two kittens and two adult cats, what a great day.
